Ingredients:

  • ·       1 cup chana dal
  • ·       3 cups water
  • ·       1 onion, finely chopped
  • ·       2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ·       1-inch piece of ginger, minced
  • ·       1-2 green chilies, chopped (optional)
  • ·       2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • ·       1 tsp cumin seeds
  • ·       1 tsp turmeric powder
  • ·       1 tsp coriander powder
  • ·       1 tsp cumin powder
  • ·       Salt, to taste
  • ·       Chopped cilantro, for garnish

1.        Rinse the chana dal in cold water until the water runs clear.


2.      In a large pot, add the chana dal and 3 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until the dal is cooked and soft.


3.      While the dal is cooking, heat the oil or ghee in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.


4.       Add the onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies (if using) to the pan and sauté until the onions are golden brown.
